Full participation in council affairs during extremely busy three years

June has been involved at the sharp end of the political arena for more than 10 years.

In 1984 June became the first woman member of the King Country Electric Power Board. "That was a forum for debate and decision making for everybody. I was certainly made welcome in what had been considered a 'man's world'." When the power board ceased.to exist June was able to look back on a learning experience that had prepared her for "greater" things. It was community service plus a knowledge of the industry that persuaded the government appointments committee to make June a trustee of the new power company — she has since been re-elected in a public poll.
