Ruapehu council service company staff peeved at criticism

The staff of Ruapehu District Council' s contractor say criticism of their running of the some of the council' s services are unfair and that they need major upgrading before improvements will be seen. Ruapehu Construction Ltd (RCL) staff said they sometimes receive adverse criticism from the general public about the quality of the outputs of systems they maintain, particularly the Ongarue, Ohakune and Raetihi water

supplies, and the Raetihi sewerage and stormwater systems. "This criticism is sometimes unfair in that some of these systems are in urgent need of upgrading to modem standards and RCL is doing everything it can to deli ver the best," said council CEO Cliff Houston. "For it's part, Council is actively planning and carrying out the upgrading of its services assets in priority order and in accordance with its budgetary constraints."
