A table with a view of two ski fields
The transformation of the front of Eivins Ski Shop on the corner of Carroll Street in National Park to 'Eivins Off Piste Cafe', is almost complete. Boasting a view of both ski fields - something no other cafe can do - the new eatery is filled with skiing memorabilia. Old newspaper clippings from races long ago and wooden skis adorn the walls. Tiny leather ski boots form the base for the table decoration - a novel touch. However, getting down to business. The menu is suprisingly large for a small new cafe, with chefs Pam and Carwyn can create anything from snacks on the run to huge sit down meals to satisfy the hungriest skiers and boarders. On the day of my lunch visit, I chose the 'West Ridge BLT'. When it
arrived I initially thought that I would never be able to get through it all - however the combination of the chunky tomatoes, at least half a packet of bacon and a lettuce, combined with their special mayonnaise on focaccia bread won out. To top it all off, the stacked sandwich (if that is what you could call it) was served with a side order of wedges. My companion tackled the 'Teheuheu Croissant' filled to the brim with Salmon and Brie (and another lettuce salad!) which she reported as being extremely tasty. Coffee in a stylish plunger and fresh orange juice completed our meal. All in all I can confidently say that Eivins new cafe will be a winner and I am looking forward to my next visit to sample the dinner menu!
