Tug 'O' War season here

Once again the Tui Tug 'O' War season has hit Ohakune. Again this year the competition has been hosted by the Pioneer Bar in the Ohakune Hotel, run in conjunction with Nitelife Security and Ruapehu Health and Fitness Centre. Last year saw hot competition with many teams competing for the final prizes worth over $1000 in cash, as well as the many other prizes including over a trailer load of "Tuis" and many items of clothing. This year seems to be following closely in its footsteps. Already the competition is onto its fourth night. The previous weeks have seen two novelty nights and one night of serious competition. As the serious competition is already underway entry into the Grand final night and money prizes is no longer available. However this should not discourage more teams entering any of the Wednesday night pulls, as there are still a lot of DB products to be given away (including a lot of Tui beer) and as there is no entry fee what is there to lose?

If people have trouble finding the four members for a team then the novelty nights' are a must. Last week saw a night of two person teams in both mixed and men's sections. There may have been more men's teams but competition was tough in the mixed event with the first pull between the Commitments and Ruapehu Health and Fitness Centre going to a third tie-breaker to decide on the winner (the Commitments).^ Strong competition in the men's event saw many entertaining pulls. Special mention must go to both Rangi and Willie Wilson for showing the crowd what real men are made of. In the mixed event it looked to be a re-run of the first pull, with the Commitments and "Ruapehu Health and Fitness Centre facing off. However Ruapehu Health and Fitness Centre walked away with the title. The men' s final was a nail biter between the team Steve and Pat, and the winners of the mixed event Ruapehu Health and Fit-. ness Centre. Both teams gave everything but Steve and Pat sneaked in by one light in the tie-breaker.
