Eye on Ruapehu College

By

Tracy Columb and Victoria Duigan

The Great Oscar Ball On Saturday 5 August the Great Oscar Ball was held at the top of the Ohakune Club, with about 100 people in attendance. Students were dressed immaculately with the girls in a stunning array of glamorous gowns and the guys dressed to kill in smart tuxedos. Teachers also dressed for the occasion — some as waitresses, some with teased-up hair, some with long, glitter hair and some with spray-painted hair. Mr David Taylor, the teacher in charge of the ball, led the dancing with groovy moves that were around when dinosaurs roamed the earth. The band, '50/50', kept students dancing right through the night with both up-to-date and not so up-to-date music. Thanks must go to Mr David Taylor, Mr Richard Lewer (the brilliant photographer), the Ball Committee, the Ball Decorations Club, those who helped clean up the morning after and to all those who gave their spare time to help. A good night was had by all, and many have started to prepare for next year's ball already.

Sixth Form Certificate PE Camp Last week Cert. PE students experienced life on Mount Ruapehu. A mountain craft camp saw a group of students and teachers take part in activities such as skiing, tramping, leadership training and living on the Turoa side of Mount Ruapehu. Lathe Operators Certificates The following students were recently presented with certificates to recognise their skill as lathe operators: Andrew Bates, Aaron Frederickson, Shaun Frederickson, Chris Hammond, Micheal Proude and Bruce Taylor. Taumarunui Exchange Last Wednesday a sports exchange was held with Taumarunui High School, all games being played on the home grounds of Ruapehu College. Most players performed really well in spirited games with wins going to the boys basketball, the badminton and squash teams. The final result of the day was a win to Taumarunui High who won the rugby, soccer and netball.
