REAP explains itself
Ruapehu REAP has submitted the following background on its activities in the district: Ruapehu Rural Education Activities Programme (Ruapehu REAP) is about early childhood, primary, secondary and adult education. If there is a need, REAP will look at ways of meeting it. REAP is managed by local people. The 1 995/96 council consists of Graham Parker, chairperson (secondary teacher interests), Celeste Ventura, deputy chairperson (independent), Garth Jensen (boards of trustees), Elizabeth Mortland (REAP staff), Y vonne Triggell (early childhood interests), Allan Savell (Army), Jane Barton (Wanganui Regional Community Polytechnic), Gerald Olds (Federated Farmers), Bubs Hibbard & Raana Mareikura (Ngati Rangi), Ellen Gould, Brian Wilson, Ruth Palliser-Campbell & Jeannette Osborne (independents). The services REAP provides are: • The development of more effecti ve links between rural communities and existing agencies (Community Education officer). • Financial assistance for pre-schools, schools and community groups to organise workshops/learning opportunities (REAP Assisted Projects fund) • Home-based support and education for parents of preschool children (early childhood community workers) • Support for individuals, families and schools through the visiting teacher.
• Financial assistance to Taihape & Ruapehu Colleges to provide further options for senior pupils (rural staffing)
