Big fibber

• The Ruapehu District Council told us through the Bulletin the raral roads were under threat because of the rain — this is not true. The bottom line is we have had 16 per cent of the metal on our roads since the County Council was wound up. I have not seen a general upkeep of road metal for over four years. Our roading system has been run down by the Ruapehu District Council. I call for an enquiry into real road maintenance levels in the area. This computer maintenance system is panning out to be a situation where almost everybody on the road has to complain to get things done. That's not fair as we pay our rates to keep our roads maintained. Plus workers are coming from Taumarunui to do general maintenance here, where are our local workers? Workers will do as the computer has put out but this often means that they drive over several other problems to get to their job which makes no sense to practical people. I call for some real human care and attention to their job in the upstairs of the RDC. Julian Dekker, Ruatiti mayor (by appointment! ).
