Chopper rescues

Palmerston North Rail Rescue helicopter pilot, Guy Beange, made two trips to Mount Ruapehu on Saturday to airlift injured people off the mountain. Mr Beange said a 28year old woman from Auckland received a fracture of the right wrist while snowboarding and a 34year old Wellington man recei ved a laceration of the left forearm causing an arterial bleed. Both casualties were flown to Palmerston North Hospital for ongoing care, Mr Beange said. The Hamilton T rustbank Rescue helicopter was also called to the mountain when an Auckland woman and her daughter were injured in two separate incidents. A Trustbank helicopter spokesman said the woman had a back injury while her daughter received a leg injury. The Taupo based Rail Rescue helicopter was also reported to have been called to airlift casualties off the mountain.
