Sewage sullies Raetihi stream
Raetihi people should avoid using the Raetihi Stream for recreational purposes, Ruapehu District Council staff are advising. A manhole over the sewerage system has overflowed frequently due to the rain in the last fortnight, reports the council. "In the interests of public health the council is recommending that until the upgrade of the sewerage system has occurred, people stay away from the stream to prevent contact with the sewage," council chief executive Cliff Houston stated last week.
