• Waimarino Police are investigating damage to a window at H.E. Webb's of Raetihi overnight Friday 14 July. Offenders threw a large stone through a plate glass window, causing approximately $100 damage. • A vehicle parked on the Bruce Road, Whakapapa Ski Area, Mt Ruapehu, during the afternoon of Saturday 15 July was broken into, with numerous items taken. Included in the stolen property was a radar detector, driving glasses and a wallet, together valued at around $700. Damage to the passenger' s front window that was smashed to gain access to the vehicle amounted to approximately $150. Police enquiries are continuing. • Another vehicle was broken into while parked outside the Powderkeg Inn in Mangawhero Terrace, Ohakune, on Saturday 15 July. Offenders smashed a side window to gain entry and removed a credit card and other miscellaneous items. • Three male youths were arrested and charged with the wilful damage of Christie Park, Ohakune, on Saturday. The offenders used a vehicle to cause extensive damage to grass areas at the park and to nearby trees, when they broke branches off in an attempt to gain traction to remove the vehicle from mud. The three will be appearing in the Ohakune District court on Thursday 10 August, to face charges. • Two Ohakune people will be appear in the Ohakune
District Court on 10 August to face charges of excess breath alcohol when they were stopped by Police on Saturday during the weekend's anti-drink driving campaign that took place in Ohakune. A spokeperson for the Ohakune Police said that in general the public were wellbehaved during the weekend and the majority of those stopped were within the limit. • An effective alarm system at a Seddon Street, Raetihi, property defied the efforts of an intruder who tried to destroy it, last week. The offender broke into the premises and caused extensive damage to the interior before decamping from the scene. The professionally-installed burglar that is fitted with an anti-tamper backup system alerted a monitoring firm, with Ohakune Police attending. Police enquiries are continuing into the burglary, and into an attempted burglary of the same premises earlier last week. • Two cars left the Ohakune Mountain Road on Sunday, one landing on its roof and the other travelling a distance down a steep embankment before coming to rest. Both cars were believed to be passing other traffic on the 'mad mile' stretch of the road, near the 1 0 kilometre mark. There was a chain restriction on the road at the time and there were public warnings about the dangerous, icy state of the road and for people to take extra care. No injuries were reported in the incidents.
