Wasp buster offers free service
As people no doubt noticed autumn last year was a busy time for wasps in the area. The Department of Conservation, Ohakune, destroyed some 30 nests around the town of both the German and cominon varieties, with the German being the more prevalent. Although, strictly speaking, the Department is responsible for destroying wasp nests only in the Conservation areas they administer, Conservation Officer Tim Mitchell has been seen in his "waspbusters" outfit in people's back yards, back paddocks and back sheds as well as under and on top of people' s houses. He said DoC Ohakune is happy to provide this service and will respond to a call as soon as possible. As it beneficial to both parties, especially around forest margins, there is no charge.
For any further information on wasps and methods of wasp nest removal please contact Tim Mitchell, Department of Conservation, Ohakune. Phone (06) 3858578.
