Discs for dogs

This year Council is issuing dog registration discs as opposed to tags which had been the practice for the past few years. The 1995/96 bright yellow disc is attached to the collar by a split ring. Tags, which wrapped around the collar, often caused irritation to the dog's neck or easily broke off to become lost, said Ruapehu District Council officers. Urban owners are especially encouraged to have their pets wear the disc as a sign that it is registered and a means of identification should it wander from home. Registration forms were posted last week allowing dog owners until the end of July to register their animals before losing rebates.
