Junior Netball

By Elayne Weller, coach On Sunday 1 1 June, two Primary School teams from Ohakune travelled to Taihape for the Taihape Primary Toumament. Teams were: Ohakune 1 (Form 2 and under) Amea Crossan (Captian), Tekawai Mariekura, Nicola Ngatai, Mindy Pakinga, Fiona McLean, Alesha Makea, Sue-anne Sue, Stacey Sefton, Virginia Morris, Rebecca Lind. Ohakune 2 (Standard 4 and under) Amy Hawira (Captain), Fiona Lynch, Kirsty Litt, Cassie Nation, Aroha Tehuia, Jessica Weller, Nolana Marsh. The Ohakune 2 team won their round, beating Taihape Yellow in the finals 9-3. Standard 4 and under came home with a trophy, gold medals each, a netball, a drink bottle each and a certificate. For many of these players it is the first season they have played netball. Well done girls! The Ohakune 1 team were battling in their games. They played well together and showed Taihape and surrounding areas that Ohakune are around and we will be for a while to come. They also

received a certificate each. Coaches choice of Team Fair Players for the day were; Amoa Crossan and Cassie Nation, each receiving a Netball magazine. Two of the players were approached to play in the Taihape Junior Rep Team - Amoa Crossan and Nicola Ngatai, but because they come under Waimarino and not the Taihape Association, the girls can't play. Elayne thanked the parents and supporters for both driving and their tremendous support on the side line. Thanked also were Anne and Tracey for their umpiring skills, much appreciated. The standard of Form 1 and 2 netball away is very strong. Results for the day: Ohakune Primary 1 (Ohakune points first) Raetihi A 4- 14. Waiouru 1 14-10; Taihape Blue 8-17; Hunterville 11-9; Pirates 4-14; Ohakune Primary 2 (Ohakune points first); Taihape Purple 4-2; Mangaweka 5-3; Taihape Yellow 9-3;
