Board suggests round-about at Waiouru highway intersection
Changes to the State Highway One ~ State Highway 49 intersection at Waiouru was suggested at last month's Waiouru Community Board meeting, with the Ruapehu District Council's chief engineer now looking into it, the board was told at their May meeting. A second suggestion that involves building a round-about was put to the May meeting which area engineer Don Sattler for his consideration. In other progress report discussions, the board resolved the following: • That Mr Sattler is to arrange for work to be carried out on the Ngauruhoe Street stormwater drain. • That workmanship on the recent road strengthening and surfacing be monitored by board members and any faults be reported back to the board. Cr Robert Vine said the area by the railway crossing on SHl was deteriorating rapidly.
• That the new toilet block be up to contract specifications and the backup problem at a T-junction sewer pipe not directly related to the contract be investigated. • That the Ruanui Street footpath damaged recently has been re-done using reinforcing. The board suggested a fence of some kind be erected to prevent a repeat of the damage (presumably caused by vehicles). Matters to be discussed at the next meeting: • The board requested an update of alterations to the Irirangi tum-off. Mr Sattler said Transit New Zealand wanted a period to re-assess the situation. Cr Vine said that some widening had been done but the turn-off is now more dangerous'because of the new passing lanes. He said the main concern was that traffic turning onto SHl had no clear view of northbound vehicles.
