School holidays are here again bringing two blissful weeks of sleeping in and not having to make school lunches, or possibly two long weeks of bad weather and boredom. The Waiouru school holiday programme kicks off tomorrow at 10am with the 'Teddy Bear's Picnic' which was a big success last year. Cookie Bear will be at the picnic, as will a couple of roving clowns. There will be a teddy bear competition with categories for best dressed, most loved and biggest. Activities will include hand prints for a mural to be sent to
soldiers in Bosnia, storytelling, games, face painting and the judging of the colouring competition. Waiouru Plunket will have a speciality biscuit stall set up and Waiouru Daycare will provide a sausage siz-
zle. Community Services Officer Michelle Elgar said most children will get a prize. Other school holiday events include a free trip to the Manawatu Science Centre and Museum in Palmerston North on 15 May. The bus leaves from the community centre at around 9am. Bookings will be accepted up until 12 May, but seats are limited, said Mrs Elgar. For the 12 and over age group, army physical training instructors will take 20 people over the Waiouru confi-
dence course. Bookings are essential and are run on a first come first served basis. Bookings and queries can be made by ri nging 3876111 extension 7917/7918 or by visiting the Community Drop In Centre opposite the shops on Queree Drive.
