Tongariro DoC structures cleared for safety

Engineering checks have been completed on Department of Conservation structures in the Tongariro Taupo Conservancy. The viewing platform above Huka Falls which was closed by the department last week, remains closed until additional bracing work has been carried out. The work is an added safety precaution and the viewing platform is expected to be re-opened by the end of the week. Other structures which have been checked and cleared by independent engineers are: Huka Fall bridge; Aratiatia

Walkway viewing platforms (2); Craters of the Moon footbridge (2), boardwalk, viewing platforms (2); Aratiatia Rapids viewing platform; Major Jones swingbridge; Red hut swingbridge; Pillars of Hercules footbridge; Maunganamu viewing platform; Tokaanu Thermal Walk boardwalk and viewing platform; Te Porere bridges (2) and viewing platform; Tongariro River lookout. A total of 59 Department of Conservation structures throughout the country have been cleared following inspection by structural engineers.
