Waimarino riding

Waimarino Adult Riding Club held a gymkhana Sunday 9 April where a small but enthusiastic group of 1 1 local riders took part in the club' s annual gymkhana at Waiouru. The rain kept off although the day gradually got windier and colder. With the small numbers and the threatening weather the whole programme was run before a late and sociable lunch with most heading for home by 3pm. Thanks were expressed to the Saddle Club for the hire of their facilities, members who prepared the grounds, judges Heather London and Jackie Henderson with help from Joy Pointon and Shelly Bath, and secretary for the day, Helene Godfrey. Tasty biscuits for the mystery game were eaten after a hearty drink of Waiouru cold water, followed by blowing a whistle — it was little wonder some contestants needed five minutes to finish the course ! The last planned ride for 8 April was cancelled due to the weather but the next is planned for Sunday 23 April, into the Rangataua Forest, meeting in Marino St at Ilam. Monday evening 24 April is the next meeting date at 7.30pm at ChristineTarrant's on SH 1 north of Taihape. New members are always welcome, contact the secretary Mrs A. Maru for details, 385-4685.
