Council plans
It seems it is never possible to come up with a proposal that everyone can agree with, and the council's proposal for a single Ohakune Complex is no exception. So far there has been little reaction to the proposal to resite all the town's council functions at the old Turoa building in Clyde Street. Do you agree with the idea of putting everything in one place? . If so, is the Turoa property the best available site and is the Turoa building suitable? If not, what are the alternatives — cope with what we' ve got or upgrade the existing buildings? We think the idea is definitely worth looking into. Perhaps the Turoa site isn't the best. Relocating everything to the present information centre site deserves consideration. Picture one suggestion we've heard — the
library placed next to the reserve with doors opening onto a peaceful reading area next to beech trees and stream. To be sure the council can do a better job of making a decision if they know the community's views earlier rather than later. What are your views? Write to us, Box 122 Ohakune, or call the new "Bulletin View Line" 06-385-8532 between 6pm and 8pm Tuesdays - Thursdays and say what's on your mind. While we're on the subject of views on council activities, the annual plan (the council's budget document and works plan for the next financial year) is now out and open for submissions. There are a lot of changes represented in the plan. Are you happy with it? Are you happy to pay more rates in return for some improvements around the district, such as roads? Now's the time for your views.
