Turoa building not suitabe
• The proposal of the Ruapehu District Council to relocate all its Ohakune functions to one site as in the Bulletin front page 1 1/4/95 has for me as it will for many other ratepayers caused much concern as to how much, where, why etc. While I am not opposed to this at this early stage I must state my doubts about the suitability of the old 'Turoa Information Centre" property. The building on the site of the old Information Centre was used as office accommodation when the Turoa Ski Field came into
being. Office staff in the upper part of the building, because of cramped space, heat, no ventilation, claustrophobia etc found it, to put a more layman's term to it, b... useless. This same building has since been tried by entrepreneurs as a restaurant but whether because of its appearance or locality, has been found again to fit the layman's term previously given.
I do realise that this is only one building on a section and there is room for a larger complex. My question to you ratepayers is this. Is this an answer to get rid of a white elephant on the road into our town or is there some other reason that we have not yet been enlightened about? Think about it.
