Waimarino golf
On Saturday 25 March the top 20 qualifiers of the '94 -'95 twilight season came together for the Sports . Country shoot out. Some
very good high pressure golf was played with some of the higher handicappers of their divisions, Lyn Drinkwater and John Purcell just to mention two, out-playing those on lower handicaps. It was notable that both semi-finals went to a putt-out with Elaine Goldfinch sinking a fine 20-metre putt to beat Ray. Results: 1-16 Wayne Marsh 1st; Gary Cready 2nd. 17-36 Elaine Goldfinch lst; Ray Spry 2nd. The overall winner, after a very intense final hole, was Wayne Marsh who beat Elaine Goldfinch on the final putt. Sunday 26 was club day at the Waimarino couhe with 43 players teeing off in a stableford round. Conditions were ideal and the course very much to the liking pf most players, as the scores in all three divisions indicate. Ladies: B Dempsey 44, -lst; V Johns 38, 2nd; P Mcllroy 36, 3rd; LDrinkwater 35, 4th. Juniors: S Gray 44, 1 st; R Brown 41 , 2nd; C Heinold 35, 3rd; B McDonnell 35, 4th.
