Ketetahi upgraded
A popular section of the Tongariro Crossing has received some much needed ITLC' from the Department of Conservation. Work on the zig zag section of the Crossing above Ketetahi hut began before Christmias and was recently completed. Helicopters were used to fly material onto the site and DoC staff were pleased with the amount of fine weather which meant the job could be completed before the first snow falls. the Department of Conservation is constantly working on different sections of the track to keep it well maintained. „ "It's a bit like painting the Auckland harbour bridge," DoC spokesperson Lianne Campbell said, "As soon as one part of the track has been upgraded, work needs to start on another section of it." On 25 March some 90 athletes are expected to take part in a race over Mt Tongariro. DoC will monitor the effect this kind of event hasoiUhettucl^surfaceand
