Good turn out for school trustee elections

All schools in the main Ruapehu Bulletin readership area will be holding elections for their boards of trustees, "followinga high turn-out of candidates. Ruapehu College has 10 nominations from around the Waimarino: Sherri Weinberg (Waiouru), Lila Pakinga (Ohakune), Nick Barclay (Waiouru), Dianne Edwards (National Park), Margaret Horne (Ohakune), Laurie Knight (Raetihi) , Y vonne Triggell (Ohakune) , Ethne Charmichael (Raetihi), Michelle Nicholls (Raetihi), Fiona Mills (Ohakune). Orautoha School has seven people standing, representing 11 families at the country school. Candidates are: Brendan Kavanagh (sitting member), Scott Larson, Catherine Brown (sitting), Kate Boyd (sitting), Leigh Bridgens (sitting), Carolyn Gannon, Margaret Hammond. Ngamatea has seven candidates — a very good turn out for such a small school. Candidates are: Geoffrey Donald (sitting), Bruce Mazengarb (sitting), William Wallis, Lois MacLean (sitting), Marrion Donald (sitting), Rosaleen Morris and Craig Mott. NationalPark Schoolhas lOcandidates: RobynTaituma, Sam Clarkson, Tracy Kereopa, Debbie Thompson (sitting member), Maureen Smith (sitting), Wilma Edwards (sitting) Ray Gordon, William Sage, Aroha Rudkin, Steve Mastrovich (sitting). The previous chairman has stood down as he has moved overseas.

Ohakune Primary School candidates are: Cathy Horne (sitting), Bruce Cranston(sitting), Edward Leamy, Grant McMasters, Carina Mareikura (presently co-opted onto the board), Colleen Munn, Richard Pirere, Paulette Richards, Nigel Shields, John Anderson (sitting). Pipiriki School has also received more than the requried number of candidates, so will be holding an election. Names of candidates were not available at the time of going to print. Waiouru School already had a number of nominations as at Monday afternoon but they were still open until 3pm. Principal Tauri Morgan expects a high turn-over due to postings away from the army camp.
