Rudie Valentine
I was shocked and disgusted to see a recent copy of your once-fine publication, the Ruapehu Bulletin (issue 14 February), that included a section on Valentine' s Day. Worse still was a cheap joke in the form of an advertisement for "cheap screws". I found this advertisement, for a hardware store, deeply offensive to my person. Not because small fixing devices with spiral threads which are used to penetrate various holes were being sold at inexpensive prices. But because of its placement, the ad hinted at an activity that will be the downfall of this human race, and to see it going "cheap" insluts (sic) me even further. This Valentine's Day is a disgusting, pagan festival which encourages men and women to flirt and carry on with each other in ways that should not be thought about let alone publicised in a newspaper that people under 80 are likely to read. (I believe only those over 80 should read vile, illicit material as they are less likely to be led into temptation by it). I call upon all virtuous people to see that this day is banned and, further, that all activitities (sic) associated with it cease, such as the giving of flowers and gifts that can only lead into teftiptation and terrible sin. The sooner that procreation is separated from such licentious activity the better, I say.
Prudence .
