Record entries at Waimarino Shears

A record number of entries at this year's Waimarino Shears provided a tremendous boost for local organisers, indicating that all is well in their ability to attract strong competition. This year saw a large amount of sponsorship from not only big organisations, but also from both Ohakune and Raetihi business sectors plus families with long standing involvement in either farming or shearing. Entires numbered more than 93 compared with just over 70 last year. Local competitors enjoyed the challenge from visitors with a high standard providing encouragement to do well. The Raetihi Primary School cultural club entertained the large crowd during the lunch break. Their Polynesian huia performance, together with the action songs, poi and haka, were "heart and soul" professional entertainment.
