School's out to Napier
In search of some well earned warmer weather 30 Form Two pupils accompanied by six parents and two teachers in need of a holiday departed for Napier on Sunday morning 4 December. Travelling south through Palmerston North they began their Hawkes Bay experience with a visit to the Norsewood Pioneer Museum. There is a lot of history there but it was cold, they reported. The overcast and cool weather was a real disappointment to all on arrival in Napier to stay at Kennedy Park (which was fantastic). There was plenty for all to do including making the most of a swimming pool. Monday arrived with really nice weather and the sun block was essential. Activities for the day included the art deco walk, Marineland and aquarium educational tours, and the Stables Museum/ Waxworks/ Earthquake 3 1 where they experienced a simulated earthquake. After lunch on the Napier foreshore some were left scolded by the sun. That evening many of the pupils were swimming in the Kennedy Park pool until 9.30pm, and it wasn't heated! The Tuesday highlights were visits to the Hawkes Bay
I Polytech and the Mission Winery. Teachers said it was very encouraging to see the enthusiasm that the pupils showed at the Polytech and that it was difficult to get them away ! This was a long day as they did not arri ve back in Ohakune until 9pm. This trip was only possible because of the support from parents who accompanied them. It was supported by Rural Education Assisted Programmes (REAP) with a substantial financial grant. Other fundraising activities included the children selling sweets and a sponsored rubbish clean-up.
