Pony club

The Ohakune branch of the Waimarino Pony Club' s Tetrathlon has become an annual event with the fifth one being held in early December. This is primarily a nonselected team event in which all members are encouraged to participate. Most teams are selected on merit whereas the tetrathlon offers variety and the opportunity to shine in one or more skills not just riding. Final scores are averaged to give a team result. Three teams contested this year and the club welcomed its first triathlon team of nonridingjunior boys. Daniel Godfrey was so keen to run that he did his own 1km run and then took part in his Mum's 2km run

and came third in the senior section! This was the first triathlon held and it will probably be repeated next year. The cross-country riding produced a few problems for the least experienced combinations but generally it rode well. The day was fine and sunny but with a cold wind and the branch especially thanked thejump judges, many of whom were caught out without enough clothing, and also to Ted and Maureen Warren, the land-owners. Next it was a trip to Waiouru for the air-rifle shooting where lunch was eaten as shooters awaited their turns. The swimming was a highlight for most in the lovely warm water and good relaxation for aching limbs. Swimmers had to swim as far as possible in three or four minutes and once the competition was over free-swimming was the order of the day, until the scorers had finished. A coke or cup of tea and biscuits rounded off the day. There were too many people to thank individually with an almost full turnout of Ohakune members and their parents to help in all phases which was very much appreciated. Results were: Team 1 Ohakune Pony Club - Natalie Hodder, Connie Cooper, Karen Richards, Angela Fraser, Hone Brausch, Nikola Ngatai, Shelly Gotlieb, Adrian Fetzer, Victoria Duigan, Dawn Workman and Anna Sommerfeld. Average 1958 points ; Team 2 T aoroa Pony Club - Rochelle Bristol, Ngaire Bennett, Gillian Bennett, Evelyn Bennett. Average 1938 points; Team 3 Waimarino Riding Club - Joanne Marama, Helene Godfrey, Robyn Hodder and Evelyn Cooper. Average 1808 points; Triathlon team - Mathew and Chris Journeaux, Nikalas and Daniel Godfrey. Average 1516 points; Individual competitors - Michelle

Fredrickson, Gitte Breum and Heather Cooper.
