Raetihi & Ohakune pools upgraded

Swimming started on time last week at the Raetihi and Ohakune pools, following a number of small improvement projects. The Waimarino Community Board was presented a report at the 1 December meeting which outlined the work. Ohakune: During November, Waione Farms Limited of Tangiwai, through June Bates, donated a pool cover to help keep the small swimming pool heated; the changing sheds and ablutions along with the custodian' s office have under gone renovations; Ruapehu Construction Limited staff serviced the internal filtration equipment; Three picnic tables were to be installed at the Ohakune Pool as part of the council' s approved Annual Plan.

Raetihi: seating within the Raetihi Pool complex was being upgraded; stainless steel pipe strapping was to have a rubber coating applied. The board heard that last season several swimmers cut their feet while standing on the external filtration piping within the main pool. This was caused by the straps used to hold the pipe work to the side of the pools. "Previously we had fixed the pipe work to the sideof the pool with plastic coated strapping. However, swimmers were able to break these by continually jumping on them," said area engineer Don Sattler.
