POLICE FILE
Family Affair drapery shop in Raetihi was burgled and extensively trashed overnight last Tuesday , and $1000 worth of property taken. The office was about a foot deep in paper and flies, and stock was strewn on the floor in the shop. The thieves took the wall boards off the back wall to gain entry. The shop had been burgled eight weeks before, when $4000 worth of stock was taken. Shop owner, Pat Olds, has decided to close the shop on New Years Eve, after four and half years of serv-
ing the community, mainly because of the break-in. She said people can only give so much to the community. 'There is no use getting bitter about it, it's one of the disadvantages of this community but there are so many other nice people around - there are more important things in life to worry about." She said the people who do these things and the ones that know who they are, don't realise the damage to the community that it does. "They' ve got to live with their conscience of what they've done. I do believe they have a conscience - it'll get the better of them, even if it takes years." • Police are appealing to the conscience of the person who found $ 1 60 in cash that was lost by a school-
boy in Raetihi Tuesday last week, to return it. The boy lost the money somewhere between the Raetihi Baths and the swimming hole behind H.E. Webb Ltd. The money was to be used to buy Christmas presents. • A Manuka Street, Ohakune, chalet was burgled on 10 December. Also burgled was a ski chalet at the corner of Duncan Street and Grey Streets, Raetihi. Property taken is yet to be confirmed. • Police wrestled with a man in Miro Street, Ohakune, on Saturday 10 December, arresting him for assaulting a female. He was to appear in the Wanganui District Court on Monday 12 December. • Two youths suffered minor injuries when they fell from their motorcycle in Jackson Street, Raetihi on Sunday.
