Free ski ends longest season
Nearly 2000 people enjoyed free skiing at Whakapapa as a celebration to end Ruapehu' s longest ski season on record - 1 8 June to 5 December. All upper lifts were operating to cope with the unseasonal crowds, and marketing manager Scott Lee said they were very happy with the promotion. "We have been busy on the fine days with up to
1 000 people visiting the ski area on weekend days," he said. There's more Although the "winter" season is over skiing can still be had for the rest of the year as Whakapapa is open
year-round for summer sightseeing and one or two lifts will operate daily for skiing. More lifts are to operate during the special Summer Ski Season planned for 26 December to 8 January.
