Horopito hall to be sold

The old Horopito Hall is to be put up for tender and removal after 6 February next year. The decision to do so was made by Waimarino Community Board members at their meeting last Thursday, following the recommendation of Ruapehu District Council property manager, Allan Low. Mr Low reported that "little or no interest is indicated by the local community to assist in the retention or management of the hall". Board member Alf Alabaster agreed there was very little local interest in the hall but a reunion of past residents was to be held there over next Waitangi Day weekend. The hall is presently situated on part of the Horopito Recreation Reserve which is currently under a grazing lease to Mr Lance Bishop and this would not be affected when the building is sold and removed, stated Mr Low in his report.
