Swimming club

At the Annual General Meeting of the Ohakune Swimming club which was held on Tuesday 29 November, the following officers were elected: coordinator Heather Lynch; treasurer/secretary Robyn Hodder; committee Jocelyn Cranston, Danella Hawira, Robyn McCulloch, Aileen Taylor, Kerryn Dixon, Jane Fraser, Cathy Horne, Wendy Young and Sue Laurenson. The club's season will open on Saturday 10 December (weather permitting). Coaching sessions will be held on Saturdays and Sundays from 10am. All interested swimmers and non-swimmers will be made welcome. Attendance on the opening day is urged so that children can be divided into groups according to ability. The cost of family membership i s $ 1 0 for the whole season, payable on opening day. The club is sorry to be losing Mr Cast as their principal coach. This year coaching will be carried out by a group of parents but anyone in the community who is able to help with swimming coaching at any level, is asked to contact Heather (385-8254) or Robyn (385-8916). Last year the club had an extremely successful season, with many children who started off as nonswimmers in December, able to swim lengths by the end of March. The swimmers enjoyed the luxury of both pools being heated and

it is hoped to do so again this year. Improvements to the swimming pool area include the installation of three picnic tables for the use of spectators. The club would be interested to hear from any individual or business who would like to donate or lend sun umbrellas to provide some shade. Anyone who has umbrellas is asked to contact Danella Hawira.
