Kids show 'sun smartness'

Kids were sun-smart on Raetihi schools athletics day on Wednesday 30 November. Public health nurse,

Helen Fahey, ran the sunsmart programme sponsored by the cancer society. Pupils learnt of the need to cover-up, wear a hat and use sun-screen to minimise the harmful effects of the sun. Part of the programme

included a swim-suit design competition for the year 2000. Winners of the competition, Peter Billet, form two and Samuel Araitanga, form one, took home a smokefree T-shirt and sun-screen

respectively. Spot prizes of eight frisbees were awarded to pupils who showed sun awarness at the athletics day. The take-home message behind the prizes was 'have sensible summer-fun in the sun'.
