Lodge burgled

Mangawhero Lodge, which serves the youth of the community as well as from around the country, has been the target of destructive burglars twice in the past week. On 18 November burglars removed a hot water cylinder, causing water damage after severing the pipes. Overnight 20 November the lodge w'as again broken into and a store room door forced. At the time of going to press police were still ascertaining what had been taken. A suspicious fire gutted a converted long drop toilet

at the rear of a vacant ski chalet in Arawa Street on Sunday. A 16-year old Raetihi youth was arrested for offensive behaviour in Seddon Street last week. He is to appear in the next Ohakune court sitting. A 14-year-old youth was apprehended after stealing a bottle of wine from Waimarino Wines. The youth was referred to the Youth Aid Section. A television, a duvet and a telephone were stolen in a burglary of High Country Cabins in Clyde Street Ohakune on 15 November. A garage in Rangataua

was burgled on 15 November and a Sthil chainsaw, valued at $1800, taken. Sometime between 14&19 November a house in Pitt Street Raetihi, was burgled and a colour TV, Microwave, small appliances and alcohol taken. The sole occupant of a car travelling south on the Parapara Highway lost control on Sunday, 24 kilometres south of Raetihi. The vehicle was extensively damaged, coming to rest on its roof in the water table. All emergency services attended and the driver was taken to Wanganui Hospital. Machinery Supplies in Clyde Street Ohakune was burgled sometime prior to 21 November (within the previous 10 days). Taken was a large amount of specialist light engineering tools. A red 15 litre plastic petrol can was stolen from the back of the Subaru ute parked at Rotokura Car Park (Karioi Lakes) on 17 November.
