Waimarino pig hunt sees small weigh-in
Over Labour Weekend the Waimarino Pig Hunting Club held its annual pig hunt with prizes to the value of $2200 up for grabs as well as $150 prize money for the children 's section. A good crowd turned out on Monday for the weigh-in. The children' s section was well supported with good entries of possums, eels and rabbits but the senior section did not fare so-well. Twenty-three member teams went out all weekend with only four boars and fi ve sows weighed in, the pigs had the last laugh if the hard luck stories circulating are to be believed. The club extended thanks to Trevor from the Ruapehu Hotel for his generous donation and support towards the hunt. Results: Heaviest boar - 1 st Kevin Phillips' team 1 36 Ib, 2nd and 3rd Stu McNie'steam 135.1b and 131 Ib, 4thTomTreanorJsteam91 Ib; Heaviest sow - 1st Rex Hall's team 103 Ib, 2nd Tom Treanors team 98 Ib, 3rd D Matoe's team 88 Ib, 4th Mike Craig's team 79 Ib, 5th N Holland's team 62.lb; Biggest tusks - 1 st and 2nd Stu McNie's team, 3rd Kevin Phillips' team. Childrens section: Heaviest possum - 1st Titapu, 2nd and 3rd Fraser, 4th S Dobbs; Heaviest eel - IstTehuia family, 2nd Jessica, 3rd S Arahanga, 4th= Temaire and Richards family; Heaviest rabbit - 1st= Tautahi, Fraser, Richards family and Moko Treanor.
