Waiouru Golf

By

'Rough

Lies'

Labour weekend saw Waiouru members travelling further and yon with large contingents playing either in Turangi or Opotiki at the B .O.P. Intermediate and Junior

Champs. The collective heads each morning indicated all had wonderful weekends. Murray MacGibbon was runner-up in the Intermediate division in Opotiki. Saturday saw the playing of the annual SERCO Group Golf Champs at Wainuiomata in the Hutt Valley. Waiouru was very well represented with a 'team' of nine players. The non-win-ner from Opotiki, Colin 'Bird' Nightingale shot a 72 to win; runner-up Merv Rodger. The competition field on Saturday at home was very small but although the players had to contend with de-thatch-ing on the greens reasonable scores were carded. Two's by Garry Haughey (Waiouru Panel Repairs sponsored 12th) and Phil Gardyne (15th - Nice chap!). Winner with nett 66, Phil Gardyne, Damon Mitchell, nett 67, Ian Baterman, nett 69. Champion of champions players compete next Saturday at Rangatira; Snr , Merv Rodger, Intermediate, Murray MacGibbon; Junior Scotty McLellan.
