Hidaka presentation to council

The Ruapehu District Council meeting was adjoumed briefly last Friday for a presentation on the recent trip to the Hidaka festival, Japan, by the mayor, deputy mayor and Taumarunui High School pupils and staff. Mr Workman explained the sister-city relationship and the potential investment from that source in all areas of the Ruapehu District including the southern wards "where it all started" following the visit by a delegation from Hidaka last year. He said that, as a result of the visit, not only had the Ruapehu district gained a great deal of exposure through the press, radio and television but New Zea-

land had also derived a lot of benefit from publicity surrounding the visit. Mr McAuslin suggested

the district could promote itself more actively by producing Japanese language posters and brochures de-

picting skiing and golfing and making these available to hotels and other accommodation houses in Hidaka.
