'Older & Bolder' kick-off
Sunday 6 November will be a special iday, when Her Excellency, the Governor General, Dame Catherine Tizard, will be in Taihape to officially open Older & Bolder Week. The day starts with a combined church service at St Mary' s Catholic Church, with bagpipes to accompany ' Amazing Grace' . After church the Rangitikei Pipe band will lead a walk to theTown Hall - weather permitting. For people unable to walk that far, seats can be booked in vintage cars. Book at the REAP office. Outside the Town Hall, tangata whenua will formally welcome everyone with traditional powhiri. After the powhiri, people will go in to the Town Hall for the official opening. Speakers at the opening will be Dame Catherine, Harry Cast (Chairperson of REAP), mayors John Wilson and Garrick Workman. Mrs Voilet Kells, of Taihape (100 years old) and Mrs mary Evans,
Ohakune (95 years) will also be there. Following the opening, luncheon will be offered. This is being catered by A1 Centro Restaurant. After the luncheon is an aftemoon of entertainment is planned including a performance by Te Roopu Mahi Waiata a Ringa o Ruapehu College. Helen Collier . will play two pieces, 'Dedication' by Schumann-Liszt, and 'Revolutionary Study' by Chopin. Deirdre Lattimore from W aiouru will sing three songs by Mozart, Schubert and Richard Strauss, and the Arcadian Singers will close the afternoon. Free buses will bring people from Raetihi leaving the bus stop at 4 Square at 9.45am and the Lions Den, Ohakune at 10am, and return them home at the end of the day.
