On Tuesday a Raetihi ladies team defended the challenge from St Johns Hill ladies team for the Pluck Cup by 29 to 8, in a game that showed concentration and good team effort from both teams. The spectators were there to support the teams and give them encouragement. Diane Martin the Raetihi Combined Bowling Club president stated that both the teams

had found the green was pretty heavy as it is very early in the season and the rain that has been experienced this spring has not helped with the preparation programme. The St Johns Hill team was: Toni Reyborn, Jean Mavlock, Betty Duncanand Marion Pritchard. The Raetihi team comprised of: Di Martin, Linda Sattler, Pauline Le Noel and Robin Scarrow. Over the years the Raetihi

teams have made a very good show with challenges and have held the cup a number of times even though the club is a small one. One of the rules of the game is that the team must not stay constant and must change a certain number of players after a few games, this is to give a fair advantage to both large and smaller clubs. The next challenge for the Pluck Cup was Monday.
