The club made an official presentation to Bill Scobie who is leaving the area. Bill has acted as club captain during the year and was instrumental in ensuring the courts construction

the previous year. For his efforts he was awarded Honorary Life Membership. The courts will be busy this week with club championships starting today as well as the Open Men' s and Women' s Champion this year members have the opportunity to compete for ungraded F and E Grade Champions in both Men's and Women' s Grades. Games will be played throughout the week with semi-finals on Friday night and finals on Saturday afternoon. Visitors are welcome with the Women' s Open Final scheduled for 4pm and the men's at 4.30pm. Defending champions Robyn Pratt and John

Laurenson are both expected to work hard to retain their titles. The following weekend will also see some excellent squash at the courts. Wayne W erder will be play ing Daniel Murphy in a demonstration game on Friday 14 October at 7.30pm. Wayne isanAl professional squash player ranked number four in New Zealand, recently beaten in the semi-finals of the New Zealand open. W ayne is the number one Waikato player and Daniel the number two. They combined to finish second in the National Teams Finals. All club members and anyone else interested are invited to attend. There will be a two dollar entry charge.

Coaching sessions will also be held on the Saturday for anyone interested at $ 1 0 per head. You can book at the courts. Both the demo-game and the coaching are opportunities not to be missed. There are only six A1 players in the country. On the Sunday Wayne will be departing for Noumea where he will be competing in the New Caledonia Open. Future events also include the Waimarino/ Ohakune challenge to be played at Waimarino this year on Wednesday 1 2 October. A squash versus badminton club night is scheduled for Wednesday 2 November.
