• As frequent skiers to your area (approx 18-23 weekends per season) I enjoy reading your paper and local news. Of some concern to me is an article page three (Spring issue of Ruapehu Snow Bulletin ) "Next generation of skiers compete at Whakapapa". My 14-year-old niece Jemma Brooking competed in this championship and not only did she win the New Zealand Junior Girls but also was placed 1 st over-
all in the boys and girls. There is not even a mention of her in your article. Obviously it is a local paper with local identities, but I feel it is nice to see some recognition of talented sports people in your news even though they may be female. You obviously print information forwarded to yourselves but (I) can't help noticing your reporter's name. Bruce Brooking. P.S Jemma won the West German Junior Girls Ski Champs this year. EDITOR REPLIES: the thrust of the article was the fact that the local area has a new generation of racers coming through, after a 'generation gap' between an older set of skiers and these young ones. Perhaps the headline should have been "Next generation of local skiers compete at Whakapapa". However as well as being a local paper, we aim to produce a newspaper worthy of being read by all visitors such as yourself, so we accept your concerns. Your implication regarding our reporter needs clarification and correction - the Snow Bulletin imprint was out-
of-date and the person you refer to did not write the article and in fact is no longer on our staff.
