Flying squad nabs 500

The Police Region 3 Flying Squad mounted a fiveday campaign in the Ruapehu District from Thurs-

day 15 September The 14 officers concentrated on driver behaviour and licensedestablishments

from Ohura to Waiouru. Overall 2200 cars were stopped with a totalof 650 offences detected of which 500 will proceed to prosecution. The Traffic Camera Car detected 330 speeding motorists, the majority of whom were visiting the skifields. The top speed detected was 180 km/hr on State Highway 4 but overall Police were impressed by the generally high standard of compliance. Visiting officers commented on the open support

from local communities for the stance taken by Police to enhance traffic safety and Community wellbeing. Only one drunk driver was detected.
