"Weakest excuse"

Carl Kevin Morris, 17, bushman of Ohakune pleaded guilty to a charge of driving while disqualified in Seddon Street, Raetihi, on 18 August. Counsel Paul Brown explained that his client

thought that his disqualification applied to only "driving" a car and not "riding" a motorcycle. In convicting and fining Morris court costs $95 and disqualifying him for a further six months, Judge Watson said that the excuse put forward would "probably take the prize as the weakest I've heard". Defendant was reminded that he must not drive or ride any vehicle on any road ... "not even a tractor".
