Power company gives to schools
Local schools have received nine stoves and six microwaves for half price under King Country Energy' s "Stoves in Schools" programme. Turaki, Turangi, Ohakune, Kaitieke and Kakahi Primary Schools, have all taken part in the programme as has Tau-
marunui, Tongariro High Schools, Ruapehu College and Ohura Area School. $40,000 written off King Country Energy has just written off bad debts totalling $40,032,61 for bills unpaid during 92/93. These total $26,236.97 for electricity and $13,795.64 for miscellane-
ous charges and trading operations. According to secretary/ treasurer Norm Annand, the bulk of the major electricity write-offs were fast food operators in the ski areas who did not pay their final accounts at the end of the ski season. Three of the larger mis-
cellaneous write - offs were for repairing accident damage, their costs of which were unable to be recovered. Infa-red camera A $40,000 infa-red camera has been bought by King Country Energy to follow up on its earlier successful survey of Taumarunui.
The company plans similar surveys in Turangi and Ohakune and will also use the camera to identify "hot spots" on its power lines. The camera can also be used to identify machinery that may not be immediately apparent by other means. The cameras will be hired out to other power companies. Meanwhile King Country Energy 's infa-red survey of an Ohakune house is to be featured on the television programme Quantum on 8 September.
