Bumper spring skiing predicted at Whakapapa

Whakapapa Ski Area is gearing up for a bumper Spring Skiing season. The field now has a three metre base - a record snow cover for late August. Groomed trails run from the upper fields to the Top O' the Bruce and even down to the lower carparks. It is widely believed Spring Skiing this year will at least equal the 1992 season. "Long time skiers to Whakapapa say they can't remember such an abundance of snow and good skiing," says marketing Manager Scott Lee "With the holidays now upon us it couldn't be any better. All our facilities are operating." Although poor weather in July was frustrating, skier numbers on fine days havebeen significantly up on last season... an encouraging sign that the popularity of skiing is continuing to increase.
