Winning Waimarino Mainstreet update

Mainstreet co-ordinator Sue Allomes reports on progress: This week with 'Mainstreet' we are another week closer to fun, madness and mayhem — 24 September and the inaugural 'Montana Ohakune Spring Ski Fest' is coming. Turoa Ski Resort, The Junction, Ohakune and Raetihi have lots of activities of interest both for the local community and visitors alike. The Raetihi Promotions Group start the festival on Saturday with a Market Day and Auction. Community groups will be having stalls with a wide variety of goodies and articles for sale. A monster auction will follow. The annual bulb show is planned for the afternoon. If you haven't already contacted Bernice Frost at Waimarino Livestock with your ideas and requests now is the time to do so. Wednesday is another big day for Raetihi. The Waimarino Club Hall is the venue for a Craft Display and Show. Local crafts of wood-turning, stained-glass and plenty of others will be on show and for sale. t

During the week plenty of other action is planned for both on and off the mountain. Wine-tasting at Sunbeam Motels and Lodges on Monday, Tuesday night at Turoa Lodge, a Casino fun night for Thursday at the Powderkeg. Saturday is a monster Carrot Festival Day in downtown Ohakune. Starting at 2pm there will be a community stall, events, childrens games and plenty of prizes. Montana Wines, the major sponsor is offering a great contribution of prizes. A special happening on the afternoon of Saturday 1 October will be a carrot competition with restaurant chefs offering their favourite carrot recipe and also an open section for the best carrot cake. Final night will be a parade followed by a Mardi Gras at the Junction Contributions are still welcome from interested indi viduals or community groups in both Raetihi and Ohakune.
