Speed cameras raise $30,000

The revenue from recent speed camera operations in Ohakune, reported to be in excess of $30,000, should be spent in the district on other road safety programmes. That is the view of Ruapehu District councillor John Compton. He made the suggestion during discussion on a report to the council on the Police Safety Administration Programme. The report showed that most activities for the 93-94 year exceeded targets, some dramatically . Examples were: 710 hours were targeted for speed control while 2391 hours was achieved; 1500 hours targeted for drink driver control, 2590 hours achieved; 50 hours targeted for community needs safety campaigns, 365 hours achieved; 1 10 hours targeted for peak traffic flow supervision and 490 hours achieved.
