Robin' the fund
• Thank goodness Irene Dempsey has an inkling, and John Compton a certainty, of what councillors should be there for! Tourism may be "a very, very important part of Ruapehu' s future," but the main aim of the Ruapehu District Council should be to spend rate-payers' hardeamed money as wisely as possible in the provision of essential services. As for the money for the mayor' s trip, and another | person as well, being taken from the mayor' s fund, what will they dream up next? Perhaps I am mistaken but I have always believed that the mayor' s fund was for the needy or distressed with no place else to go in time of emergency. Oh well - seems Robbin' Hood rides again !
