Fatal accident

A 64- year old Auckland man was killed instantly when the vehicle he was driving collided with a truck and trailer unit just north of Horopito last Wednesday 3 August. The accident occurred at around 1pm. Nicholas Ioannis Varouhas, the sole occupant, swerved into the path of a Wanganui -bound truck and trailer unit while negotiating a slight left-hand bend. The Ohakune Volunteer Fire Brigade attended the accident and used emergency equipment to cut the man' s body from the vehicle. Short traffic delays were experiCnced by some motorists while the wreckage was removed from the highway. A salvage truck was called in to tow the truck and trailer unit to Wanganui.
