Film premiere snub
• I am writing on behalf of the Araitanga family in respect of the wine and cheese evening to be held at the Ohakune Hotel on 13 August, with 'Once Were Warriors' star,RenaOwen. I was disappointed to hear that one of our local actors, Julian Arahanga, who also starred in the movie (as Nig), was not included as a guest. This event is being used as a premiere screening of 'Once Were Warriors' in the Waimarino and it is disheartening to find that our local talent is not accorded celebrity exposure. At the age of 10 Julian was the lead actor jn the film 'Makutu On Mrs Jones' and more recently appears in a Trust Bank advertisement which won the award for the best advertisement of the year. I note that proceeds from this wine and cheese gettogether go towards the Ruapehu College's trip to the National Speech Competition in Christchurch. Not only is Julian tangata whenua (from this area) but he is also an ex-pupil of the college. Come on organisers, let' s not overlook the local tal-
ent and give them the recoenition that is due.
