Rangataua first, Japan second
• It seems that if you want something done by the Ruapehu District Council you have to be a tourist or have something to do with tourism because the Ruapehu District Council seem to be totally obsessed with it. Ratepayers are told work cannot be done because council are not able to afford it, but they can soon find money for totally unimportant schemes they think up, such as paying out $4500 per person for two people to go to Japan for more tourist promotion. Instead of wasting money, use it to employ
more workers and do some of the things that are being shoved aside and forgotten. For instance I have repeatedly asked for something to be done about the drains and culverts along the roadsides in Rangataua which are totally inoperative and definitely a health risk, but what happens - nothing at all. Regular maintenance is not carried out; there is too much driving around, looking out the vehicle window and that' s it. And if you, the Ruapehu District Council don't believe me, ask rate payers why things are going back in the whole area and I don' t mean just Rangataua. Also we are still waiting for the meeting to discuss problems in Rangataua, meetings which other areas have had, but never eventu-
ated for us. Many people may not agree with what I write at times but I consider myself to be right and will not back down on anything I say unless proven wrong.
